The academic year begins on September 1st and ends on August 31st. Commencement and closing dates for the winter and spring semesters, courses, and examinations are set by the University Senate. The dates for the 2020-2021 academic year are as follows:

- November 17th (Commemoration of the NTUA Student Uprising)
- November 30th (Saint Andrew’s Day)
- From December 23rd to January 7th (Christmas and New Year’s Vacations)
- January 30th (Three Hierarchs holiday)
- Monday marking the beginning of Lent
- March 25th (National Holiday)
- Easter Vacations
- May 1st
- Pentecost
