“Naturalism and Normativity: Undermining the Presuppositions of the Debate between Liberal and Scientific Naturalism”
Dionysis Christias studied in the University of Athens and did his PhD at the Department of History and Philosophy of Science (University of Athens). His PhD thesis is entitled ‘The Justification of Empirical Beliefs’. He has tought for two years at the University of Patras. Currently he teaches modern and contemporary epistemology as a teaching fellow at the Department of History and Philosophy of Science at the University of Athens. The topic of his post-doctoral dissertation is: “Naturalism and Normativity: Undermining the Presuppositions of the Debate between Liberal and Scientific Naturalism”. His research interests include epistemology, metaphilosophy, the philosophy of Wilfrid Sellars and post-Sellarsian philosophy (McDowell, Brandom) and the debate between naturalist and normativist conceptions of the place of mind within nature.

The Question of Life in Early Greek Philosophy

Ο Σταύρος Κουλουμέντας σπούδασε φιλοσοφία και παιδαγωγική στο Αριστοτέλειο Πανεπιστήμιο Θεσσαλονίκης και ολοκλήρωσε το διδακτορικό του στο Τμήμα Κλασικών Σπουδών του Πανεπιστημίου του Cambridge με θέμα την ενσωμάτωση πολιτικών και κοινωνικών εννοιών, κυρίως της δικαιοσύνης, στην πρώιμη ελληνική κοσμολογία. Έχει συμμετάσχει σε διεθνή διεπιστημονικά προγράμματα στο Πανεπιστήμιo Humboldt του Βερολίνου και στο Centre Léon Robin του Πανεπιστημίου του Παρισιού ΙV. Έχει επίσης διδάξει αρχαία φιλοσοφία στο Πανεπιστήμιο Πατρών, το Πανεπιστήμιο Κρήτης, το Αριστοτέλειο Πανεπιστήμιο Θεσσαλονίκης και το Ανοικτό Πανεπιστήμιο της Κύπρου.
Tο παρόν ερευνητικό έργο, σε συνεργασία με τον Στασινό Σταυριανέα και την Claudia Zatta, διεξάγεται στο πλαίσιο του προγράμματος υποτροφιών του ΕΛΙΔΕΚ για την ενίσχυση μεταδιδακτόρων. Το θέμα της έρευνας είναι η έννοια της ζωής στην αρχαία ελληνική φιλοσοφία και ιατρική, ιδιαίτερα την προπλατωνική περίοδο, και εστιάζει στη σχέση σώματος και ψυχής, τις λειτουργίες των έμβιων όντων, τη σύλληψη του κόσμου ως οργανισμού που γεννιέται και φθείρεται, καθώς στη διαμάχη μεταξύ μηχανοκρατικών και τελεολογικών συστημάτων.

Moral Perception And Practical Knowledge
Evgenia Mylonaki studied Philosophy and History of Science at the department of Philosophy and History and Science at the University of Athens, and did her PhD in philosophy at the University of Pittsburgh in the U.S.A. Her doctoral dissertation is entitled “From Conflict to Unity: Motivation and Practical Reason” and deals with the issue of practical rationality. Currently she teaches philosophy at the International Center for Mediterannean and Greek Studies (DIKEMES) and at the program “Plato’s Academy” of the University of Athens. In June of 2012 she started her post-doctoral research project on “Moral Perception And Practical Knowledge”, which is funded by the fellowship program “Ενίσχυση Μεταδιδακτόρων Ερευνητών/τριών” of the Ministry of Education and the EU. Her research interests include philosophy of action, ethics, political philosophy and ancient philosophy.

“Habit and skill: the Articulation and Usefulness of a Neglected Distinction”
Christos Douskos was educated in the University of Edinburgh and the University of Athens. He has taught for several years at the University of Patras. His research project, “Habit and skill: the Articulation and Usefulness of a Neglected Distinction”, aims to investigate how the relation between habit and skill can contribute to the ongoing debates about the nature of agency, as well as to areas such as virtue ethics and the philosophy of perception. The research is carried out in association with Birkbeck College, University of London, under the supervision of Jennifer Hornsby and Pavlos Kontos. The project is co-funded by the European Social Fund and the General Secretariat of Research and Technology (GSRT).
