Yuk Hui’s work on “Cosmotechnics” (The Question Concerning Technology in China: An Essay in Cosmotechnics, MIT Press: 2022) addresses technology as an anthropological universal. In his view, Chinese thought can offer a valuable contribution to a reconsideration of the –originally Greek– concept of technics. “Cosmotechics” invites us to open philosophy of technology to a diversification of technics. However, what drives such an enterprise?
The conference aims to create a dialogue between Yuk Hui and Susanna Lindberg, a continental philosopher with a focus on technology (From technological humanity to Bio-technical Existence, SUNY: 2023), as well as two experts on comparative Chinese-Continental philosophy: Fabien Heubel (Was ist chinesische Philosophie? [What is Chinese Philosophy?] Meiner: 2021) and Kejun Xia (Chinese philosophy and contemporary aesthetics: Unthought of Empty, Peter Lang: 2020).
